Wildside Records is now distributing USA book publisher
Consafos in New Zealand. This cool book imprint focuses on skate, surf and music culture books and was co-founded by California based kiwi
Kirk Gee who wrote for
RipItUp many years ago. Consafos partners with
Burning Flag Press to publish the books of photographer
Glen E. Friedman.
The latest
Consafos release is
Keep Your Eyes Open: The Fugazi Photographs of Glen E. Friedman. This new hardcover book by photographer Glen E. Friedman has an introduction by Ian F. Svenoniusand is a 112 page, 23cms by 28cms hardcover book with the best of Friedman's unparalleled photographs of Fugazi in almost 200 colour and black & white photos by Friedman -- onstage and off between 1986 and their last U.S.A. concert in 2002.
Ian MacKaye explains, "While most photographers were taking photos of Fugazi, Glen was making photos with us."
Fugazi evolved from the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene of the late 1970s and early 80s. While it would be impossible to fully capture Fugazi in any one medium, Friedman s book effectively complements the band's Dischord Records catalogue.
Glen E. Friedman is considered one of the most important photographers of his generation, world-renowned for his prescient documentation of many of recent history's most iconic movements in pop culture. Among other worthy subjects, his lens has captured moments in the birth and evolution of radical skateboarding, hardcore punk, and hip-hop, as Friedman played a firsthand role in their development.
